![]() My oath was to support and defend the Constitution. I did not swear an oath to make us better. But even this debating and sharpening is not that to which I swore an oath. Realizing the idea of America has been the work of the country since its founding. And the iron-sharpening work of disagreeing over and debating ideas about what America is and ought to be has made us better, not worse. Slavers and abolitionists and those held in bondage did not agree on the idea of America-and the country went to war over it. Jefferson and Hamilton did not agree on the idea of America. Biden supporters and Trump supporters do not agree on an idea of America. In reality, you and I probably do not always agree about what the idea of America is or ought to be. I did not swear to support and defend the idea of America, or American values, or democratic ideals-because since this country’s founding, serious Americans have disagreed about just what the idea of America ought to be, and which values are American, and which ideals are democratic. The oath I swore, and the oath sworn by at least 81 of those charged in the insurrection, was not always to do what I believe to be in the best interest of the country. I am making the weaker claim that one can believe oneself to be fighting for one’s country while at the same time contradicting the words of the oath. I am not making the strong claim that January sixth insurrectionists violated their oaths of office. When people leave military service, surely they are absolved of their oath. But even if all this is true, their actions were at odds with the oath they had previously sworn. I have no doubt that they committed their violent and illegal acts to defend and secure their own idea of America. I have no doubt that they believed-however mistakenly-that they were acting in the best interest of the country. I have no doubt that those who participated believed the election was stolen. ![]() Most of those who stormed the Capitol and threatened members of Congress did so because they believed it was the right thing to do. Each of those 81 current or former military service members has-at least once, perhaps several times-raised their right hand and sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic. On the 6 th of January 2021, the Constitution was threatened by “enemies domestic.” Insurrectionists breached the Capitol intending to disrupt Congress’s efforts to “open all the Certificates,” as Article II, Section I of the Constitution requires, so that “the Votes then be counted.” According to CBS News, at least ten percent of the more than 700 people charged in connection with the insurrection have served in the U.S. But I have heard several officiating officers follow this statement up with a second: that in the United States military, our oath is to the idea of America. military oath of office stands apart from others around the world in that we swear an oath, not to a monarch, nor to a head of state, but to the Constitution. ![]() The officiant in such ceremonies often points out to the honoree and to those in attendance that the U.S. In those fifteen years, I have attended countless enlistment, commissioning, and promotion ceremonies. ![]() It is that document I swore to support and defend against all enemies foreign and domestic at the Old North Bridge in 2006 and now, fifteen years in, I bear true faith and allegiance to the same. It was the thirteen sovereign states’ duty, he wrote, “to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” The throwing off-the Revolutionary War-took place from 1775 to 1783, but the new guards would not be in place until the first nine of the thirteen states ratified the U.S. Thomas Jefferson would formalize the language of that agreement the following year. It was the “rude bridge that arched the flood,” as Ralph Waldo Emerson put it, where “embattled farmers stood // and fired the shot heard round the world.” There was no Constitution then only a tacit agreement between the thirteen colonies to throw off the bonds of tyranny. I first swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution in 2006 at the Old North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Big props to Kevin and Tapped Enterprises for a fantastic time! Steph M., Long Island, NY Not only is it amazing to love what you do, but to make other people happy while doing it takes your job to a completely different level. They book tours, parties and even just basic transportation to and from events, lowering the number of DWI arrests for the Suffolk County police! I say bah to all those annoying long island wine limo tours that take you to the least common denominators of alcohol on the north shore (I'm looking right at you, Pindar and Vineyard 48!) and hop on a short bus. Kevin seems to have a great working relationship with local breweries, farms, and wineries. This tour specifically stopped at Woodside Orchids, Sherwood house vineyards and Long Ireland brewery allowing a little something for everyone. They offer delicous German food along with an extensive list of craft beer. Black Forest is Long Island's only German microbrewery restaurant. The next stop on this German tour is Black Forest Brew Haus, in Farmingdale, NY. Sample some of their great beers such as their Raven's Shadow Porter, or their Necromancer IPA. The family room became a regular stop for friends, and the Bar in the Garage became known as "The Barrage" In 2010, Barrage Brewing Company was founded. Everyone raved about Steve's beer and encourage him to sell it. Once the bar and family room were completed, they threw a get together for some friends. In this family room, Steve built a 16 foor bar with two taps, and decided to brew some beer for those taps. In 2009, Steve and his wife decided to create a family room out of a small existing room and the garage in their home. The owner of Barrage, Steve, had a love for great beer that started over 20 years ago when he and a friend began home brewing. The key advantage of isochronic tones (and monaural beats) is you don’t need to listen to them with headphones for the brainwave entrainment to take place but the frequencies must be played at a much louder volume to have the desired entrainment effect. This makes it much easier to use binaural beats for the lower frequencies such as theta and delta waves if you want to listen to them as you fall asleep. The key advantage of binaural beats is they don’t have to be audible for brainwave entrainment to take place (provided you’re listening to them with headphones) and many people find them easier to listen to because the sound of the frequencies are much quieter. However, nearly every research study conducted in the area of brainwave entrainment has examined binaural beats. The main difference between binaural beats and isochronic tones is that binaural beats are two slightly different tones that are continuous, whereas isochronic tones are single tones that come on and off at regular intervals.įrom a technical perspective, isochronic tones and even monaural beats (where there is a single tone that isn’t turned on and off) should both be effective means of brainwave entrainment. His research found that isochronic tones produce a stronger brainwave entrainment effect when compared to binaural beats but I don’t know of any peer-reviewed research studies since that back up the superior effectiveness of isochronic tones. Arturo Manns in 1981 conducted at the Universidad de los Andes in Santiago, Chile. Isochronic tones were discovered in a scientific study by Dr. They were popularized by American business executive and radio producer Robert Monroe in the early 1970’s when he wrote the cult classic Journeys Out of the Body sharing his experiences with brainwave entrainment and a series of powerful out-of-body experiences he had using binaural beats. He discovered when signals of two different frequencies are presented separately, one to each ears, your brain detects the phase variation between the frequencies and tries to reconcile that difference. German scientist Heinrich Wilhelm Dove was the first person to discover binaural beats in 1839. Here’s are the key differences between binaural beats and isochronic tones: ![]() Many people who do not respond well to binaural beats often respond very well to isochronic tones so it’s best to experiment with both to find what works best for you. While many people love using binaural beats and find they have a significant effect, a number of people find they experience no noticeable effect. A Comparison of Binaural Beats Vs Isochronic Tones: I would recommend experimenting both binaural betas and isochronic tones for yourself to see which of them work best for you. While there has been much more studies showing the efficacy of binaural beats, anecdotally many people online prefer isochronic tones. One of the most common questions about brainwave entrainment is about the difference between binaural beats and isochronic tones. ![]() ![]() The Steinberg CC121 Controller interfaces the creativity of musicians and producers with the functional complexity of the world’s most popular music production system.
